A quick note to any users (According to Webalizer people other than myself have downloaded it, so I have to presume that I actually have some now!):
I noticed a bug in the HBP stereo algorithm whilst trying to create a demo video of it the other day. It crashes if given input that is masked. I'll have a look at it this weekend some time, I doubt its hard to fix. In the mean time, either crop away masked areas (As typically got from rectified images.) or revert to the older HDP algorithm. |

Well, seeing as todays date is 7/7/7 I thought it would be the perfect time to do the... 8th release!
Haven't added masking support to the plane fitting algorithm unfortunately, so don't use it on images with masked areas. Of greater interest is the new stereo algorithm however, a hierarchical belief propagation approach which is far better than the previous dynamic programming approach. I've made it the default in the drop down list. The only warning is that this algorithm is far more memory intensive than the other one, so be careful how large an image you throw at it - if it is too big Cyclops will crash. Despite its added complexity its actually faster than the dynamic programming approach, though of course if it runs out of ram and starts thrashing it will take forever.
This new algorithm has only just been implemented, and there is a good chance I will be tweaking it some more and hopefully making it faster and better. But time shall tell, Cyclops has its own to-do list these days, and its several pages long.

No new version of Cyclops I'm afraid. I expected to have finished the plane fitting algorithm by now. Its only omission is support for masked regions, which it currently tries to match. Not a hard feature to add, but not a quick one either, as it involves many little changes, and is quite tedious to do.
I have however almost finished adding a new stereo algorithm, which should kick the crap out of the current one. When both are done there will be a new version, and probably a new demo video. I am however moving house this coming weekend, so when I shall find time I don't know. A new version will either appear mid week if I am very lucky in regards to time and motivation, but more likely in a fortnights time.

I've added plane fitting to Cyclops, whilst useless for organic objects this can clean up objects with flat surfaces, such as buildings, quite nicely. It is admittedly very slow (It took 5 hours to do Stereopsis for the video below.), and when it makes a mistake its usually really bad. None the less, it will be available when I release the next version of Cyclops (Probably this weekend.) and for the moment a video is provided.
Head over to the video section to get at the (higher quality) Quicktime version. Also, if you have some anaglyph glasses then hit the read more button to get at an anaglyph version. Again, a higher quality version of this is available in the video section.

Well, Cyclops is now publicly available, for all of the 2.5 people who will ever use it. This is the 7th release, I fleshed out two entire chapters for this, to make it just a touch more usable. No real new features in the program itself, but a bunch of bug fixes as is normal.
As its now public I have included in the read more section the two demo videos I have so far. Another one is on its way. Albeit at the pace of a snail with really tiny legs.

Well, I do declare Cyclops to be beta! Not much has actually changed, there are still features missing, so it doesn't actually comply with my definition of beta, but it is 90% done, and reaching 100% would take me another year. And that is assuming I don't think of any further features in the mean time, which isn't exactly likely.
The main difference between this release and the last is that this version is entirely legal, or at least I think its legal. You can never be entirely sure in a world where you can patent the doubly linked list. (Ok, *that* patent I am violating.) Regardless, I'm not going to actually remove the password protection of this area yet, that will come sometime in the next week - I'ld just like to do a bit more on the manual and hopefully, though not likely, finish work on another demo video I'm producing. This video is a little different from the previous fares, where, unlike the previous, my intention is to keep it photo-realistic throughout. In other words its not a single evening job.
Anyway, to anyone with the username/password, if you want to distribute them to interested parties feel free, though it might be easier to just wait a few days.
